Getting To Know Greater Vancouver: Welcome to Langley
When you want to make the most of your time in the city and really get to know the local area, there’s no better way to do it than by taking a look at every last little corner it has to offer. Langley is one of the most beautiful areas of Greater Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. A fast growing area, you’ll fall in love with its beautiful farmlands and small town feel, while at the same time enjoying easy access to all the amenities a medium size city has to offer. Aldergrove in Langley
This charming little township is less than 60 kilometres east of downtown Vancouver and very much falls into the greater area. It’s urban in nature, relatively quiet and looked after in terms of the public facilities. Perfect when you want to enjoy the benefits of small town living while also being nice and close to one of the biggest cities in the nation.
The accommodation options cover all shapes and sizes, as you’d expect from a small town, and allows you to take your pick with the minimum of fuss. You can also find a whole host of family-run businesses, restaurants and stores that will extend a friendly welcome from the moment you walk through the door. Ideal when you want to be able to make yourself feel right at home from your first day in Aldergrove.
Brookswood
A small town with a population of a little over 13,000 residents is the recipe for a warm welcome and cosy way of life. The good news is that’s exactly what you’ll find when you step foot in Brookswood for the first time, and the chances are you may never want to leave.
There’s plenty of communal meeting spots, cafes and restaurants, as well as leafy green spaces that will be perfect in all seasons. Take your pick, take your time, and take it all in and you’ll be able to feel right at home in Brookswood as you get to know the locals. It’s also ideally situated for anyone who wants to retain the freedom and flexibility of city life, being just a short commute from central Vancouver. A great little option to consider basing yourself in if you want the best of city life, rural life and small town life all rolled into one.
Campbell Valley in Langley
Campbell Valley is composed of a small belt of largely rural houses dotted around the edges of a public park. This gives the place something of a throwback feel that invites you to come on in, explore what it has to offer, and to do all of this at your own pace.
By being able to get back to nature and escape the main aspects of the hustle and bustle, living in Campbell Valley sets you free to enjoy life your way. From there you’re free to explore the other townships in Langley, or to hop onto one of the main routes back into Vancouver. You choose!
Glen Valley
If you’re someone who wants to get away from it all and live at a slower, calmer pace, Glen Valley will be right up your street. Whether you’re looking for a long term stay, or just planning a short break or day trip, you’re sure to feel at home as soon as you arrive.
The locals are open and welcoming, and you’ll always find a watering hole or eatery where someone will share the history of the local area with you. Not only is this a great way to get to know more people, it’s also a fun way to feel part of the community and really get a feel for the place.
Fort Langley
With a name like this, how can you really afford to miss it? Fort Langley is a small village of 3,400 people that’s known far and wide for its craft breweries and history as a former fur trading outpost. The Community Hall is very much the centre of local life and is the place to be when you want to see what’s going on. Pay it a visit and you’ll be able to get a real sense of the place in no time at all.
Langley City
This charming little area runs from the Fraser River all the way down to the U.S. border and is sure to extend a warm welcome whenever you visit. You’ll find a nice mix of traditional traders and family-run stores, to the larger chains and travel infrastructure you’d expect living near Vancouver. Ideal if you want the perfect balance of a variety of different types of living.
Murrayville
The Lower Mainland is home to Murrayville — a charming town that’s known for its community spirit and sense of occasion. Throughout the year you’ll get a sense of the townsfolk really coming together as they make the most of all the seasonal cheer. Perfect if you want your family and loved ones to feel part of something in no time at all.
Otter District in Langley
The nice cross between urban and rural living continues on down to Otter District where the local school is very much the hub of the community. It’s the place where live music, entertainment and school shows are put on throughout the year, each with their own sense of occasion and fanfare.
Salmon River
This beautiful natural outpost is perfect for getting away from it all and gives you a chance to reconnect with nature. By fishing, escaping the noise and finding some time to yourself, Salmon River allows you to enjoy some quality downtime without having to get too far out of the main hub of Vancouver. This makes it a great little destination for the summer months where you want to have fun late into the evening while still having plenty of time to get home and dream the night away.
Walnut Grove
Last but not least on our rundown is a place that’s as charming as its name suggests. The open spaces and friendly atmosphere are about getting away from it all and allowing yourself the time to take in nature. Friendly stores and eateries, easy transport links and a highly resourced range of public infrastructure all make Walnut Grove one of the most sought after places to live in the whole of Langley.
