Welcome to Richmond: best places to visit and stay
Richmond is one of those spots outside Vancouver that you have to visit at least once. It’s a great part of the city for a huge variety of reasons, not least of all because of the sheer amount of variety it has to offer. Nowhere is this seen better than the contrast between the green spaces that are dotted about everywhere and the flawless outlet mall near the YVR International Airport. Both offer you something to do in your downtime, and they’re unique in their own signature ways. The variety doesn’t stop there though, which is why we’re going to take a stroll in some of the most sought after areas in Richmond.
East Richmond
This community orientated corner of the city is a great spot for families and older couples who want to feel right at home. The Community Hall is so often at the center of the best things going on in East Richmond with meetings, events and parties being held in all seasons. This gives the place a real sense of community and anyone who spends time there a real sense of belonging. Two things which are vital if you’re going to feel comfortable with your choice from the moment you arrive.
Broadmoor
The Skytrain makes Broadmoor better connected than you’d first think, which is something that really works in its favor. If you’re looking for the perfect combination of suburban living and fast access to the center of the city, Broadmoor could be just the location you’ve been looking for.
Schooling, healthcare and public infrastructure have all received heavy levels of investment in recent years, making this a corner of the city that feels safe and welcoming at all times. There’s also a strong sense of community that sees plenty of events, sports and get togethers held in all seasons. Ideal if you want to be able to get to know the local community while also getting out of the very heights of the frenetic action in the center of the city.
Richmond Center
For those looking to be at the heart of the action but with plenty of options to escape for a quieter spot when the mood takes them, look no further. There’s a whole host of public facilities and amenities, while things like schooling and healthcare are as well catered for as any area in the city. You’ll also find that because of the central location relative to other neighborhoods, there’s a wide range of employment options spanning different industries and professions. Great if you want to give yourself access to options without resigning yourself to having to travel further to get to where you need to be.
Blundell
This is very much a seafaring corner of the city because of the unique combination of its distance to the coast and the history of the industries that operate there. Fresh seafood is something that will be a staple in many of the local stores and is certainly going to tempt you to go and take a look. Once you take it all in for the first time, the only problem you’ll have is working out whether you’re happy to travel to get it, or whether you simply cannot risk going without and want to make sure it’s always right there waiting on your doorstep.
Richmond Gardens
If a name could tell you anything then it would tell you all about the pristine green spaces this corner of Richmond is ready to introduce you to. They’re relaxed, perfectly maintained and a great place to take it easy. Whether you decide to work out, meet up with friends, or just lie back in the sunshine with a good book is up to you. Just make sure you leave plenty of time to sample some of the boutique eateries and artisan coffee houses that are dotted about all over the place in Richmond Gardens.
Steveston
Not only is Steveston home to the best fresh fish market in the city, it’s known for it right across the city, and for good reason! The fresh catches are the talk of the city when you head into the eateries and foodie districts because they set the tone for so much of what is on the menu. Whether you choose to stay here or not, the market is surely worth a visit for anyone who wants to get a real sense for what makes a major part of Richmond tick. It’s also a great way to fall back in love with food by seeing how it’s done the right way as you take a break from the world of prepackaged options.
Bridgeport
The Night Market in Bridgeport is the place to be when you want to take in all the sights and sounds of the city in your own time. The way in which the area lights up, fills with noise and a buzzing atmosphere takes over really has to be seen in person to be truly believed. Ideal if you want to be right at the heart of the action and yet still close enough to get up to the North Shore when you feel like you need a mindful reset.
West Cambie
This is a playful, welcoming area that has a nice balance of open space and shopping. You’ll find plenty of services right on your doorstep, a relaxed and friendly nightlife and some reliable travel options that make getting into the rest of the city as quick and easy as it should be. What’s more, you’ll also benefit from the clean surroundings and real push to go green the locals have enjoyed over the last couple of years. Not only does this help everyone play their part in protecting the environment, it also improves the health of the people who live there. A true win-win for everyone there if ever there were one!
East Cambie & Brighouse
